Grade Level: Pre-K
Genre: Picture Book
This is a very simple book with preschoolers in mind. The book has a lyrical flow to it that you can sing with the children. Students can actually memorize the words and you can have them join you in a sing along. You can make it very fun by adding a dance that actually goes along with it. In addition, the book is very good to teach children at this level about counting. The words in the book can be used, since it actually counts numbers. In addition, a recommended activity from the author is to have the children count the kids on the pages. This is a very simple book, but it is valuable for children in a Pre-K class, because it teaches a simple concept in a way that will keep the students engaged. With a song and a dance and the rhyming words, students will also learn to count.
I believe having a picture book can be a great tool for students to use to create their own stories. They can develop some skills in literacy even if at the beginning stages of becoming a reader.
